Why are you inspired to be of service in the world?
It has been a pretty simple revelation for me that I am happiest and most fulfilled when I am helping others. My parents have always been people that have taken care of the community around them in simple day to day things, and they have instilled in me their values of compassion, integrity and selfless service. It's funny to me that I think they thought I was a little crazy to take on this challenge, since they taught me to be this way.
I have spent the last 10 years teaching Pilates, and while I have connected with some wonderful people, I have always known that my purpose was to do more than align pelvis'. My career path has been a purposeful evolution that has led me to this challenge. I know this is exactly where I'm supposed to be, and am excited to see just how the path will unfold.
About Me:
I'm 35, single, and Aunt of 8 adorable kids. I teach Pilates for money, and work part-time as doula in an inner-city hospital. I have attended over 200 births, and my passion is to become a traditional midwife and advocate to make birth safer for mamas and babies everywhere. I have been trained in Ashtanga Yoga, and Thai Yoga Bodywork at the Yoga Center of Mpls, but currently enjoy being a student of many styles of Yoga.
I love live music, especially Jack Johnson and Ben Harper. I love snowboarding and on a solo journey to Costa Rica, found a new passion in surfing! This trip inspired the recent sale of my house in hopes of making a life of traveling, seva, birthing babies, and surfing!
Geographical Location:
Minneapolis, MN
Tell us about any Seva Projects that you are already involved in...
I can't say that I am involved in any other actual Seva projects besides the Cambodian challenge, but I think my jobs spills over into everyday Seva.
In my job as a Doula I work in an inner-city hospital in which most of my patients are young women from Mexico, Somalia, and often the troubled caucasian and african- americans in our city. Sometimes they are incarcerated women, drug addicts, survivors of rape, abuse, and many times they are alone. Not only do I connect with them during an amazing, and sometimes very difficult time in their lives, but many times my support doesn't end there, as I am notorious for giving out my cell phone #.
It's can be difficult and helpless feeling work at times, but what Seane said in her story about Cambodia resonated with me. My job isn't to save them, it's to Love them. What keeps me going in my life is my connections. I thrive in situations that allow me connect to humanity, whether it's relationships with my family, friends, or anyone I encounter. I am happiest when my life is filled with these connections. That is why I love my work, and why I have to do this challenge. There's no better way to connect then through Seva, so I strive to make it a way of life!Photobucket

Dear Angela,
Thank you for your beautiful message! Your doula work is amazing...what a wonderful way to honour the women who do not often have support! I'd love to learn more about your midwifery dreams...
Blessings.

Angela,
I loved reading your words! Thanks for the reminder about not saving them, rather loving them. That's ringing true to me today!
Peace,
Maureen
PS I'm also 35 and single.... and the aunt of 14! We have that in common besides our mid-western spirit!

Reaching out a hand to those who need us is what this is all about. I know all those who can help, will.

Thank-you for the good work you are doing.
Namaste,
Ellen
